  • Meet Your Team: Pop-up Facebook group for 1 month prior to the retreat to get to know each other.
  • 5 nights accommodation at an exquisite private beach house at the end of a quiet cove in the Akumal area of the Mayan Riviera (*swoon*). It's a beachfront 8 bedroom, 8.5 bathroom house with fabulous group spaces and private spaces. Each participant will have a private bedroom.

Christina Vinters.jpg

Christina Vinters is the Co-Founder of Modern Separations. She's a Chartered Mediator, gratefully non-practicing Lawyer, Author of Pathways to Amicable Divorce and the DIY Divorce Manual, and Host of the Divorce Well Podcast. She supports professionals in their career transitions through Mastermind groups, private coaching, and retreats. She has a Juris Doctor (Law Degree) from the University of Victoria and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto.


Aurora Johannson is the Founder of Inside Passage Law. She's a Mindful Lawyer and Mediator, as well as a certified Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor. She realized after over a decade of helping clients resolve challenging disputes that conflict and mindfulness go together like yin and yang. She now meditates routinely and incorporates mindfulness into her law and mediation practices. She has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Fine Arts.

Juris Vinters is the other Co-Founder of Modern Separations. He has a diverse background in international business, sales, teaching, and the study of human emotion which he brings to his role as the Intake Manager for Modern Separations. He has a Master of Arts from Indiana University (Bloomington) focusing on the History of Human Sciences and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in Philosophy and Psychoanalytic Thought.

Do I have to be a lawyer? No! You need to be (or aspire to be) in a solo or small/medium practice of some kind with some measure of control over how and what you do. Some examples might be mediator, accountant, financial planner, or coach. Of course, lawyers are welcome too!

Do I have to be in the divorce business? Also no. We all happen to work with separating couples so we will have particular insight into your challenges and opportunities if you are a divorce professional however the experience that we have curated will benefit many different types of professionals who need a re-boot.

What airport should I fly into? Cancun International Airport (CUN). Many cities across Canada and the U.S. have non-stop flights into Cancun!

How will I get from the airport to the venue? We will provide our participants with information regarding a variety of options, including shuttle, bus, taxi and rental car.

Do I have to participate in all of the retreat workshops? No, you don't. However, the more you put into the experience, the more you'll get out of it!

Can my special diet be accommodated? Probably! Let us know what you need and we will confirm.

What is not included in the price? You are responsible for your flights, transfers to and from the airport, alcoholic beverages, travel insurance, health insurance, and any activities you choose during your free time.

Do I have to be "on" at all times with the other participants? No, this is a retreat! We want you to have plenty of time to rest and re-charge. We expect that there will be a fluid mix of social and private time over the course of the 5 days.

What is the appropriate attire for the retreat? This will be a time to work, play and relax so the attire is casual - not business casual but actual casual! We need to be comfortable to think beyond our comfort zones and open up our minds to possibility. Hello, flip flops in November...

What should I bring with me? Bring comfortable clothes and whatever you need to help you think creatively, feel comfortable, and enjoy yourself in the tropics. A few things you might like to have with you are: a journal or pad of paper, comfortable clothes for yoga, flip flops and/or water shoes, comfortable walking shoes, mask and snorkel, water bottle, sunscreen, and sunhat. If you have one, you may like to bring along your yoga mat.

Our recent retreat in Hawaii was a phenomenal experience.

We all came back with renewed energy and purpose for our professional practices. There's something absolutely magical and transformative about having extended time with like-minded professionals in a stunning environment.

We focused on business planning for the year, brainstormed challenges, and had time to think creatively about exciting new projects. In our down time, we snorkeled, hiked, journaled, napped, did yoga, and took a surfing lesson. It was extraordinary.
